The Auckland poetry series, of around ten books, is a collection of poems influenced by the city,
sky tower, Auckland University, time away from home, a dying mom and a heart that was raw
and in pain.
It is also a tribute to Auckland University and my teachers Tusiata Avia, Selina Tusitala Marsh,
M Leggott, Lisa, Helen and Mike Johnson.
Not all of these are written in the summer when I did my first university course in creative writing
called Engl 252 with Mike Johnson and Tusiata Avia, but the influence of Engl 252 is very clear
even as I got into 343 after returning from India, where I had gone once again: since mom was
not well.
